Petersen Rear Addition - Bethesda, MD
NARI CotY Award Nominee 2008
As new parents of twin girls, the Petersens knew the neighborhood they lived in and schools it had to offer were perfect for a growing family, but their small outdated home was not. They wanted to expand and open up their existing living space so they could watch the twins while attending to their household chores.
To meet the Petersen's needs, we created a 3-D design of a 20 x 39 one-story rear addition with an 11 x 14 screened-in porch. We expanded their master bedroom, added a mudroom and laundry room, replaced the existing kitchen with storage and pantry space and created a large open family room and kitchen area.
The completed addition with two porches.
3D Design of Future Great Room
The homeowners were delighted that they would be able to stay in the home and neighborhood they adored and have enough space to raise their family. Recently they wrote, "We are quite pleased with the job and the results. Friends have complimented us on the kid-friendly set up and the cozy island shape!"
The new kitchen flows into a comfortable family room with a light airy feel. Large windows overlook the backyard and French doors lead to the new screened-in porch. The kitchen and family room have multiple workstations so the Petersens can watch their children while they work.
The curved breakfast bar adds a cozy, casual place for family and friends to gather.
The kitchen has a home command center with a built-in desk.
Sapphire blue granite countertops and maple cabinets set upon light bamboo flooring give the kitchen uniformity and openness.
The expanded new dining room is airy and open.
The new mud room gives the Petersens an organized place to store the twins' shoes and coats.
A new double vanity, bathtub and ceramic tile give the Hall bath a crisp, clean look with colorful accents.
Earth tone tiles on the shower walls and bath floor make this Master retreat feel like a spa.
A large screen porch lets the family enjoy their beautiful yard and neighborhood without the mosquitoes.
The new screen porch offers plenty of room to entertain or simply enjoy a family meal.
