With over 40 years of experience in remodeling, John Tabor remodels homes to enhance and inspire the lives of the people who live in them. When John founded Tabor Design Build, he did so with creative design, top-quality craftsmanship, and unsurpassed attention to detail in mind. He understands the complexities of home construction and strives to provide each client with a stress-free experience.

He is knowledgeable in every aspect of the remodeling and renovation business. John was born in Scotland and has lived in Maryland since he was five years old. He has been in the remodeling industry since 1979. He worked with numerous high-end remodeling companies and home builders and advanced his way up from laborer to lead carpenter. In 1986 he started his own remodeling company and has been successfully running his own business ever since. He is personally involved in all aspects of Tabor Design Build, from the original estimate to designing the new space, to managing production through to completion.

A nationally recognized industry leader, John is a long-time member of Remodelers Advantage, a peer review association, comprised of hundreds of the top design build remodeling companies in the U.S. They meet every six months to discuss new trends, review business decisions and propose solutions to obstacles within the industry. Through his participation, John has shared best practices, techniques, and strategies with some of the nation’s top remodelers. He uses their insights to refine his own company’s systems and practices, and applies cutting edge industry principles and practices to his work, in order to give his clients the best remodeling experience possible.

John serves on the executive board and is currently the Vice President of the local PRO, Professional Remodeling Organization, Mid-Atlantic chapter. He is chairman of the ethics committee. They investigate and mediate client complaints and ensure that high ethical standards are maintained by all its members.

John is also an active member of Network Bethesda, a community of local business leaders that meets once a week to help each other achieve their business goals.

John’s personal charity work involves helping injured veterans remodel their homes to suit their special needs. He organizes his employees, trade contractors and suppliers to help about once a year to make a real difference for a veteran and their family. He is honored to help pay back a small part of our country’s debt to these brave men and women.

John studied construction management, architectural design and structural engineering at Montgomery College in the 1980’s. John has completed NARI’s extensive Certified Remodeler Program and is certified with the Green Building Council as a Green Advantage Professional, as well as certified by the EPA to safely remodel homes containing lead-based paint.

John is a certified Pella window installer, as well as a factory trained Endless Pool installer.

He believes strongly in continuing education and provides opportunities for TDB employees and employees of other local contractors to further their knowledge and skill. He has taught Certified Lead Carpenter and Certified Remodeler Classes at the TDB office. He has taught Communications and Scuba Diving as a Boy Scout merit badge coach.

John has been awarded the NARI Metro DC Community Service Award, and the Roger Gregory Community Service Award.

Tamara has been keeping the Tabor Team “in the black” and profitable for more than 15 years. She holds a degree in Finance from the University of Maryland and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1997. She handles all of the “number-crunching” duties – financial reporting, tax preparation, payroll, budgeting, financial forecasting, bank reconciliation, and, of course, bookkeeping and accounting.

She is also responsible for all of the company’s human resource needs – ensuring that all employees are properly licensed and certified for the jobs they are performing.  In addition to her financial and accounting background, she brings invaluable experience and diversity to the Tabor Team – in real estate, property management, investments and banking.  She decided to team up with her husband and owner, John Tabor, in 2000 when they expanded their family by two.  While she admits to actually enjoy “playing with numbers”, her secret passion has always been art – and she has dabbled in drawing and painting since she was a child.

Rebecca
Interior Designer

Rebecca graduated from Pratt Institute School of Architecture in Brooklyn New York. After graduation Rebecca quickly began focusing on Interior Architecture, working with a variety of Architectural Companies in New York City.

While Rebecca enjoys the architectural elements of all projects, a love for the residential home design came after the marriage to her Federal Government Employee husband. Three decades, three children and five relocations later, Rebecca experienced firsthand the stress and joy of residential remodeling. She transformed each one of the five properties into a more functional, warm, and beautiful home for their family.

She desired to offer her experience to help others, which led her to focus on Kitchen and Bathroom Design. She has been employed with several companies in Montgomery County. She has been able to develop and hone her skills and is able to offer unique and creative solutions to continue transforming spaces that best meet the needs and dreams of our clients.

Rebecca resides in Montgomery County, where she can be found volunteering or walking in the neighborhood. Though she and her husband are empty nesters, they both continue to enjoy their remodeled home, cooking for their visiting kids, family and friends.
